    Introduced in 1993, the C-Class was the first Mercedes-Benz to use the current naming system, which is composed of one or two letters, followed by a number.

1986 Work begins on a successor to the Mercedes Benz 190 (W201).
1993 The C-Class (W202) is introduced.
1994 Development begins on a C-Class upgrade (W203)
1996 The C 63 AMG serves as the Formula 1 Safety Car.
1997 The C 63 AMG again is the Formula 1 Safety Car.
2000 The second-generation C-Class (W203) is introduced.
2007 The third-generation C-Class (W204) is displayed at the Geneva Auto Show, and the Estate body line is unveiled at the Frankfurt International Motor Show.
2011 The C-Class (W204) receives a facelift for the 2012 model year.
2014 The current generation C-Class (W205) is launched at the Detroit Auto Show – the first car to use all-new Modular Rear Architecture.
2016 The C-Class range of vehicles extends with the addition of the cabriolet body line.
