1998 The fourth-generation S-Class (W220) is introduced.
2005 The fifth-generation S-Class (W221) is unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
2006 The fifth-generation S-Class makes its North American debut at the North American International Auto Show.
2009 The S-Class (W221) receives a minor facelift for the 2010 model year.
2013 The sixth-generation S-Class (W222) is unveiled.

    S: Launched in 1972, the S-Class is Mercedes-Benz's flagship full-size luxury sedan. The S stands for Sonderklasse, which translates as "Special Class".
