The Future: A Blend of Super Yacht and Luxury Car

It's a show-stopper. The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is in a class of its own – and defines "automative haute couture".

Unveiled this week in California, this cabriolet – bristling with intelligence – is an extravagant example of sheer glamour and classic elegance. Almost six metres long and two metres wide – and finished in nautical blue metallic – this ultra-car resembles an ocean-going luxury yacht. Together with 24-inch wheels trimmed in rose gold and a huge front grille that mirrors a pinstripe suit, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet effortlessly reinterprets the classic proportions of Art Deco design.

And it's not just about its jaw-dropping body. Inside, the car is a mix of futuristic style and understated heritage. White high-quality nappa leather trim, custom-made fabric-top interwoven with rose gold and LED interior lights that offer a cocktail lounge ambience. And then, under the winged bonnet, there's the luxe picnic basket complete with dinner plates, flasks, cutlery and umbrellas.

The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 boasts four compact permanent magnet synchronous electric motors and all-wheel-drive. The drive system pumps out 550kW, which delivers a sporty acceleration from 0 100km/h in under four seconds and a top electric speed of 250km/h. In addition, the shallow underfloor battery offers a range of more than 500km. And the visionary quick-charge function means a five-minute charge gives you an extra 100km.

It's the ultimate in luxury of the future and a worthwhile supercousin to the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Coupé that was revealed at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance last year.
