Beast from the Green Hell

The outstanding Mercedes-AMG GT R has been unleashed on the world.

Reigning Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton was the star guest at the global unveiling of one the most-anticipated supercars ever at the legendary Brooklands circuit in England this weekend.

This is where Mercedes-AMG introduced the latest and most powerful member of its successful V8 sports car family – the AMG GT R. This 430 kW supercar with extensively modified suspension, new aerodynamics and intelligent lightweight construction delivers an especially dynamic driving experience. Its moniker, "Beast from the Green Hell", refers to the North Loop racetrack at Nürburgring, where the new top model in the GT family underwent rigorous testing. The name also makes a nod to the exclusive AMG bright-green magno paint finish of the world premiere car.

"With the new AMG GT R we have reached the next level of driving performance. This road-going sports car with motor-racing genes and innovative technical solutions allows people to feel our motorsport origins in every fibre," says Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes AMG.

"It combines the driving dynamics of our AMG GT3 racing car with the everyday practicality of the AMG GT. Those with petrol in their veins will be thrilled by the radical longitudinal and lateral acceleration, the precise turn-in, and the sensational grip. We have modified all performance-relevant components and linked them together intelligently for maximum driving dynamics."

Three-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton adds: "For me, a street-legal sports car needs to have muscle, power, agility, speed, balance and ride. It has to have edgy elegance and it's got to be sexy. When I first saw the AMG GT R I was just like: Why aren't all cars like this?"
