Lenin's: Jozi's Only Vodka Bar
Maboneng Precinct is one of the coolest places in Jo'burg to hang out. Which makes the location of Lenin's Vodka Bar ideal. In this space, owned by Roman Slepica, a dominating mural of Vladimir Lenin drawn by local artist Yiull Damaso watches over the crowd.
Lenin's stocks more than 40 types of vodka from different parts of the world in a huge freezer behind the bar. All the bottles are kept at -18º C because good vodkas don't freeze. A regularly updated blackboard explains what's on offer. Shots can cost anything from R20 for Virgin Vodka from the UK to R80 for Stoli Elit from Latvia.
Lenin's also offers delicious, reasonably priced food. The cheeseburger with blue cheese is a must, as is the sweet and sour chicken wings. And for those who find vodka shots intimidating, it also has a great list of cocktails perfect for summer afternoons with friends.
Check out Lenin's between Wednesday and Saturday from 4pm until late. On Sundays it opens at noon, perfect for a pick-me-up after shopping at Market on Main.
