He's a maestro of many talents – from making sublime music with his band MiCasa to hosting TV cooking shows that wow the senses.

He's also the ultimate urban city slicker with a taste for the finer things in life and an appreciation for luxury.

J'Something (born Joao Da Fonseca) is constantly on the move, driven to succeed.

And he needed no persuasion to get behind the the wheel of the GLS – the luxurious S-Class of SUVs.

In fact, it was going to be difficult to persuade him to part with the keys at the end of the day. Which comes as no surprise.

No other SUV carries the attributes of a luxury sedan onto a 4x4 track without sacrificing power and agility.

See J'Something's thrilling first experience of the GLS, guided by professional AMG Driving Academy instructor Christoff Snyders, below.

When he first climbed into the GLS, J'Something was amped by the size. "We could easily fit the whole band in here – along with our equipment and partners!" he said of the super-roomy SUV that seats seven people comfortably.

After his quick spin around the city streets of Jo'burg to familiarise himself with the GLS, MiCasa's lead vocalist felt he'd been cocooned in feathers, thanks to the AIRMATIC suspension system.

J'Something also got to experience the next-level driver assistance systems firsthand. DISTRONIC PLUS helped him keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of him, while COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS warned him of a possible collision with a pedestrian.

And of course, Active Parking Assist didn't fail to enthrall either. Parallel parking with no hands on the steering wheel! What's not to love?

Last but certainly not least, the upbeat musician was also impressed with the DYNAMIC SELECT controller that offers six driving programs, ranging from Sport or Comfort to Offroad.

There's so much technology! But it's fantastic to know that it's not just about making the drive awesome – it's about making it super-safe too.

Along with fellow band members Mo-T and Dr Duda, J'Something has made South Africans lace up their dancing shoes.

It was a chance jamming session that saw the threesome evolve into the soulful house outfit MiCasa, and having released three platiunum-selling albums, toured internationally and won a slew of awards, the band shows no signs of losing momentum.

Not content with limiting himself to riffs and beats, J'Something also flexes his creative muscles in the kitchen – and was a familiar face in lounges around the country with Mzansi Magic's Something's Cooking and SABC3's What's For Dinner.

It's his commitment to excellence – whether it's the ingredients he's using in a recipe, the golf clubs he prefers or the upmarket boutiques he chooses to frequent – that enables him to appreciate the S-Class of SUVs – the GLS.

See J'Something rock an average day in the GLS, below.

From upmarket shopping boutiques to the golf course, the GLS is the perfect companion.

MiCasa's lead vocalist is the first to admit that as an urban, techno-savvy creative he's more comfortable in the city than bundu-bashing in an SUV. But he's also not one to shy away from a challenge.

Keen to try his hand at a 4x4 track – and to experience the GLS at its most robust – J'Something drove to the Zwartkops AMG Driving Academy in Centurion to meet up with instructor Christoff again.

Although there was no time for the full-day Dynamic 4x4 Course (R4 500) where drivers learn how to deal with ditches, side slopes, ridges and ruts; the Diff Lock and Centre Diff Lock functions; traction control systems and effective weight transfer procedures, J'Something proved to be a star pupil.

See him ace the track below.

From ditches to gravel slopes and hectic inclines in the GLS.

As you’ll agree, the GLS is too exceptional to stay at home. Visit these 4x4 tracks – one in each province –  to appreciate its off-road prowess fully.
