Wayde van Niekerk Nominated for Prestigious Award

Our homeboy has been nominated for Breakthrough of the Year at the global Laureus World Sports Awards, to be held in Monaco next month. 

This annual award ceremony honours remarkable individuals from the world of sports, plus the greatest sporting achievements throughout the year.

Wayde joins F1 champ Nico Rosberg and Ethiopian long-distance runner Almaz Ayana in the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award category. 

Other nominees of the international event include three-time Laureus winner Usain Bolt, tennis gold medal winner Andy Murray and Olympic runner Mo Farah for Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award. 

Michael Phelps, the most successful Olympian ever, heads the nominees in the Laureus World Comeback of the Year category, after winning another five golds and a silver medal in Rio. 

Mercedes-AMG Petronas are nominated for the third straight year for the Laureus World Team of the Year Award, along with three football teams: European champions Portugal, Champions League winners Real Madrid and Neymar-inspired Olympic gold medal winners Brazil.
